Histotechnology

ADMISSION CRITERIA

ACADEMIC:
Prerequisites for admission to the program are as follows:
Associate degree or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry

GRADE REQUIREMENTS
A minimum overall grade point average of 2.5/4.0 with a minimum grade point average of 2.5/4.0 in all science courses and 3 hrs of math courses must be achieved by the applicant. Grade point is calculated using grades from ALL colleges/universities the applicant attended.

FOREIGN DEGREE:
If an applicant is basing his/her eligibility for the program on a degree from a foreign university, the official transcript or copy must first be evaluated by an evaluation agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services Inc. The evaluation must show degree equivalency, subject breakdown. Subject grades must be submitted with the application.

The foreign associate degree must satisfy at least one of the following criteria :

  1. A foreign associate degree with a major in either chemistry or biology.
  2. A foreign associate degree in either general studies or in a professional area with a total of 60 academic semester units or equivalent which are exclusive of any practical clinical components including a combination of 12 semester hours of chemistry and biology and 3 hours of math.

All of the aforementioned course work must meet specified requirements in NAACLS Essentials and should be subject to review and evaluation.

PERSONAL:
Personal qualifications include motivation to become an active member of the health care team. Responsibility, reliability, cooperative spirit and good judgment are all important attributes to be considered. An interest in science, allied health and an interest in histology preferred.
