University Labs

DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL) is a regional, integrated laboratory system providing services to the eight hospitals that comprise The Detroit Medical Center located in Detroit, Michigan. DMC University Laboratories evolved in 1993 and is comprised of Core Laboratories, Specialty Laboratories, and Rapid Response Hospital Laboratories.

DMC University Laboratories provides support to two Schools of Allied Health that include a School of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) located at the core laboratory in the University Health Center of Detroit Receiving Hospital University Health Center and School of Histologic Technology (HT)/(HLT), located on the DMC Kresge Campus. Upon completion of each clinical program, the student is eligible to take the appropriate American Society of Clinical Pathologist or equivalent certification exam.

DMC University Laboratories is the training site for the Wayne State University School of Medicine Pathology Residency program and Wayne State University, College of Mortuary Science, Anatomic Pathology Assistant program.

Lab Services

Our Programs

School of Histotechnology
The program accepts 4-6 students each year for 32 weeks of clinical training. The program starts in January and ends in August. However, the program reserves the right to change the start and completion dates, notice is applicants. 

Medical Laboratory Scientist Program
The program accepts 10 students each year for 36 weeks of practical training. Both degree and non degree students are acceptable, providing admission criteria are met.
